In Memory of the Old Library
Exhibit Opening at the Courthouse Museum
Thursday, March 12, 2026
Thursday, March 12, 2026
Merced County Courthouse Museum will open the “In Memory of the Old Library” exhibit on Thursday, March 12, at 5 p.m. The Old Library Building stood, for decades, in Courthouse Park as a symbol of learning. When it was destroyed by a fire in December 2024, many Merced residents were shocked and angry, seeking answers and reminiscing about the past. This exhibition aims to help our community find closure by sharing the complete history of the building, from being the first High School in the County, then the Merced County Library, to later becoming vacant while waiting for repairs. During the exhibit opening at 6 p.m., Kathleen Crookham, Sherrie Spendlove, and Susan Walsh will share their memories and tributes to the Old Library. For more information about the exhibition, please contact the Museum office at (209) 723-2401.
